How parents of Deaf children can find swimming support with the help of Level Water

Find swimming support with the help of Level Water

Navigating the world of swimming can be challenging for any parent, but for those with Deaf children, finding the right swimming teacher who is able to provide the right attention and support can feel like diving into uncharted waters.

Level Water is a National Charity who offer part funded 1:1 swimming lessons for primary school aged children with a physical disability, visual impairment or hearing impairment. They believe that everyone should have the opportunity to learn to swim and fall in love with the water. They work in partnership with pools and swim schools around the country to train teachers and provide funding to allow pools to offer high quality one to one lessons to children with disabilities at the same price to parents as a standard group lesson.

If you are interested, have a look at their website https://www.levelwater.org/ and register your interest.

Places are dependent on availability in your area of swimming teachers therefore waits may apply.

One of our member families shared their recent experience with Level Water:

Our experience has been really positive; Level Water matched us with a local trained teacher and we had an introductory appointment to talk about our son’s hearing and how he communicates whilst not wearing his hearing aids in the water. Alison has been absolutely fantastic – she uses some signs, eye contact for lip reading, gestures and pre-teaching before entering the pool.” SHDCS Member family.
